Another Local Market for Your Handmade Jewelry
If you’re looking for new local markets for your jewelry, here’s one with excellent demographics. Most cities have at least a few local country clubs that are generally located in affluent neighborhoods. The members of these clubs tend to have a great deal of expendable income. If you make higher end handmade jewelry, these clubs could be a lucrative market for your creations.
Most of these country clubs attract a number of women who come to play tennis, golf, and eat lunch. Why not sponsor a trunk show in the lobby of one of your local country clubs? You would want to be in a high traffic area so you would catch the attention of the women as they head to the dining area of the club.
Since many of these clubs are private, it helps if you’re either a member or know someone who’s a member who can help sponsor you with the country club staff. This isn’t always necessary. Many of these clubs would consider what you offer a valuable service, particularly if you’re donating a portion of the proceeds to their club.
A customer at our bead store has been successful marketing her jewelry through small shows at local country clubs even though she’s not a member. She designs very elegant, high end sterling silver necklaces with large semiprecious beads and stones. Her sales have been excellent and she’s developed a group of women who purchase from her on a consistent basis.
How should you approach these local country clubs? The best way to start would be to call and ask to speak with the events coordinator at these clubs. Let this person know that you’re a jewelry designer and would like to offer their club members an opportunity to purchase your unique handmade jewelry. If you know someone who belongs to the club, mention their name as a referral. This can often get you in the door. See if you can set up an appointment with the events coordinator to show your jewelry.
When you meet with the events coordinator, you’ll want to let her know the benefits a handmade jewelry trunk show would offer their members. These might include the opportunity to buy exclusive handmade jewelry by an artisan and the time saving aspect of having the jewelry brought to them so they can shop at their leisure without leaving the club. You could also work out an arrangement whereby you either lease the space for your trunk show or offer a portion of your profits to the club.
Trunk shows at local country clubs would be particularly lucrative around the holiday season. Why not contact your local country clubs and see if you can schedule a trunk show?
