Don't Let Fear Stop You From Being a Jewelry Success Story!

I often get emails from people who are quite talented at jewelry design and are eager to find a market for their creations. Unfortunately, many of these people are afraid to take the first step towards making their jewelry design dreams a reality.

First, it's important to understand we all have fears of failure and of rejection. It's only natural after you've spent hours coming up with jewelry designs that you would be a bit afraid to approach a new market for your jewelry. After all, what if the boutique owner really dislikes your designs?

I spent many years with the same fears of marketing my work. Back when we lived in another state and I was just learning how to make jewelry, I developed a line of hair ornaments. Eventually I reached the point where I had so many hair ornaments I either had to stop making them or find a market for them. I had those same fears of rejection. What if I tried to sell my hair ornaments and no one wanted one? Worse yet, what if someone laughed and called me an amateur? These subconscious and conscious thoughts and fears kept me from taking action for far too long.

Finally one day on a whim, I approached a local hair salon and showed her my hair ornaments. To my surprise, she didn't laugh, but took them into her store on consignment. When I left that store I was walking on air! To make matters even better, when I returned a week later, she had $140.00 in sales waiting for me. I was ecstatic! To this day, I still sell a line of hairsticks and hair forks to local salons in my area.

The point is, I would never have found this market for my creative efforts if I hadn't pushed fear aside and taken action. Sometimes the best way to overcome fear and inertia related to marketing your product is to DO something. You don't have to be perfect! You're going to have some failures and rejections along the way, but you're going to learn from these failures and use those rejections to further refind your designs, your presentation, and your marketing approach.

Do you have a line of jewelry that you've been afraid to market for fear of rejection? Why not start by approaching a boutique owner with your jewelry (make an appointment first). Show her what you have to offer and get her feedback. If she wants to carry your jewelry in her store, great! I not, take her feedback into consideration and use it to make your jewelry designs, presentation, and marketing materials better. Once you've made some changes, try again. Understand there is a learning process to achieving success in anything.

I want to encourage you to take baby steps and learn from each step you take how to make your jewelry line better. If you don't want to start by approaching a store owner, you could also have a small home jewelry party featuring your designs or exhibit at a local show to get some exposure and feedback on your jewelry. The point is, you need to start moving towards your goal. If your way to thinking is keeping you from jewelry success, you  may want to read this book. It's a classic in the field of achieving wealth and success. I read it and it has surely changed my mindset. I think it can do the same for you.

Thanks for reading. :-)
