Why Won't My Jewelry Sell on Ebay?

One of the most frequent emails I get
from readers of my blog is the one that
asks why their jewelry
isn't selling well
on Ebay.

Many people jump to the conclusion that ''stiff
competition" is the reason. While I agree that the
jewelry market on Ebay is quite competitive, I
believe that inadequate presentation is the
real reason behind slow sales.

Jewelry is an item that's best experienced up
close and in person where the potential customer
can touch the jewelry, try it on, and experience
the quality and weight of the piece. This makes it
a bit difficult to sell online, huh?

Not necessarily! It just means you need to work
harder to have compelling online descriptions
along with clear photos .

Many sellers are trying to market their jewelry on Ebay
with one, dark photo and almost no description. This is
just not going to bring in the sales!

You need to:

1. Include several photos showing the piece of jewelry from
serveral angles. If it's a necklace, you need a closeup
shot of the pendant and the clasp. All of your photos need to
be taken with good lighting and should be adjusted to the
download time isn't unreasonable. (people hate to wait on
Ebay). If you're not comfortable with photography, there are
some excellent tutorials online for learning to photograph
jewelry. (more on this later)

2. You need to write a complete description that includes
the type of stones used, type of metal, length, type of clasp,
etc. If this information is missing, people will most likely
move onto the next auction.

3. Your description needs to have some personality!
Let them know why this piece of jewelry is special, what
they could wear it with, and how it will feel when they put
it on. People buy on the basis of emotion. Arouse those
positive emotions with the right description and you'll make
the sale.

4. Your description needs to be easy to read. Use short
paragraphs with white space in between. It's easier on the
eyes.

I'd like to give you a link to an Ebay store that sells jewelry
who has done a nice job of presenting their items. Here's
the link.  Ebay store link   I would study this one closely.
Spend some time looking at jewelry listings while you're there
and see how the successful sellers are presenting their items.

Hope this inspires some of you to give Ebay another try!
